Scrapbooking Party
Scrapbooking parties are a surefire hit with kids, especially young girls between the ages of six and twelve. Not only will kids have a blast, but they’ll come home with their very own personalized keepsake from this crafty birthday party. The following ideas can help you to get started.
Before the Party
The first step to party planning is making invitations and sending them out. Create home-made scrapbooked invitations with your child to give the guests a flavor of the party they’ll be attending. Make sure to include all relevant information, including: the occasion, the venue, the date and time, and what guests should bring, if anything. Use a photo on the invitation to give it a personal touch.
During the Party
The types of activities you choose for the party should reflect the birthday girl or boy and naturally, they should also be age appropriate. If your guests will be younger, consider making a book with personal information, such as their name, birth date, physical description, likes and dislikes, age, and personal drawings. Don’t forget to add a photo from the birthday party. Older kids can make pages in a scrapbook using photos that they bring along or themes that they choose. They should be able to make about three or four pages during the party, which is a great start on their first scrapbook. If you enjoy scrapbooking yourself, you can even show older kids some techniques!
Materials
You should have enough scrapbooking supplies on hand for everyone to participate. While you will probably want to set a limit on how many pages children can make, it’s also a good idea to purchase inexpensive supplies. Opt for discount items at your local craft or dollar store. Don’t put out any materials that you aren’t comfortable with children using. You will also need supplies to assemble the finished products, including plastic page covers and ribbons to tie together the pages that the children finish during the party.
Games
You can choose almost any game and adapt it to go with the theme of scrapbooking. For instance, a traditional game like pin the tail on the donkey could be adapted to become pin the bow on the birthday girl. You can use a blown-up picture of your daughter in a homemade frame. Using a bow with tape on the back, have kids take their turn spinning around and trying to find the right place to pin the bow. Another fun game for older kids is a guessing game or questionnaire. Make up questions about the birthday girl that require guests to guess. The guest with the most answers right wins a prize!
After the Party
Keep the theme going by sending out thank you notes to the guests who attended the party. A fantastic way to send out personalized thank you notes is to take a picture of each individual kid during the party. Later, print off the pictures and make a frame for each one out of poster paper. On the back, write a little thank you note to the family.
